A Church For Christ

About KCMC

Our Greatest Mission

Beyond Boundaries, Disciples Of Christ

KCMC is a local church belonging to the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist Church in Malaysia. Current membership is about 1,600. Our biblical purpose and mission is to love God, love and serve others, and make disciples of Jesus Christ — in Klang and beyond.

Our Beliefs

KCMC believes in the word of God contained in the Old and New Testament as the sufficient rule both of faith and of practice. We believe in one God who is infinite in wisdom, power and love. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords and sole Saviour of the entire human race. We believe in the Holy Spirit as God present with us for guidance, comfort and strength.

We affirm that the Church exists for the proclamation of the gospel of Christ, the teaching of sound biblical truth, the making of disciples for God’s kingdom, and the care of human welfare (spiritual and physical) in the local community as well as abroad.

Connect With Us

Besides Sunday worship services, KCMC is also home to a network of various fellowships, including adult cell groupswhich meet weekly. We also have programmes for teens and young adults, as well as women and seniors. All are welcome to participate.

City On The Hill, Light Of The World

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Matthew 5:14

How It All Began

Founded in 1898 by a British missionary, KCMC began as a home meeting and was pastored by an early convert. It was not until the 1920’s that the current site of the old church was used for Sunday Worship Services. It was originally constructed from wood and came with an “atap” (palm fronds) roof. A wooden roof and brick walls were later added. The building was shared by both the Wesley and Tamil Methodist churches.

In 1955, the sanctuary was expanded, and a new Christian Education Center was built. It wasn’t until 1973 that the church, led by the late Rev Peter Hsu, purchased the plot of land on which the current building was built. It was dedicated on December 12, 1977.

Preaching Points

KCMC established its preaching points, including Banting, Tanjung Karang, Tanjung Sepat, Tanjung Malim, Kapar, Subang Jaya (1982), Dengkil (1983), Kuala Kubu Bharu (1984), Rasa (1985), Shah Alam (1987) and finally Puchong Perdana (partnering with Shah Alam) in 1997. The majority of these Preaching Points have now become independent local churches.

More recently, we’ve also noticed that Klang has experienced tremendous growth itself. As a result, preaching points were established at Setia Alam (2009), Klang Utama (2014), and Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2 (2015).

Our Congregations

KCMC began as a primarily Hokkien congregation, though sermons were occasionally delivered in other dialects, including Cantonese. Over the years, the needs of a new generation called for translations into English (during sermons).

This went on for many years, and it wasn’t until 1988 that a separate English service was introduced. KCMC’s English Worship Service (EWS) began with about 50 members for the first two years and was held in the afternoon in a wing of the church. In 1991, the 2nd floor was renovated and converted into the English Service Chapel so that the service could be held in the morning.

As numbers grew, it eventually moved to the main sanctuary and finally to the ground floor in 1998. In October 1996, we launched a Chinese Worship Service (CWS) to reach a wider audience, while still retaining a small Hokkien Service. There are currently three (3) Worship Services (Hokkien, Mandarin, and English) running concurrently.

Mission Fund

The Mission Fund, which was established in 1979, has enabled us to look beyond our own walls and shores to regions beyond. Through the faithful giving and participation of our congregations, we have been privileged to be involved in frontier missions to the world’s unreached peoples in various ways. We have seen first-hand how God has provided us with everything we need. By giving according to His grace, we have been incredibly blessed in return.
